I remember this photo clearly. This particular sunday after having a late brunch with my girlfriend, I looked up into the sky and saw the sun for the first time in a month (I’m exaggerating but there were only around 2 days in the whole month where the sky wasn’t overcast). Luckily, I had my camera with me at the time and I told her we need to head over to Polson Pier right now to capture the Toronto skyline illuminated by a beautiful sunset. At least that’s what I thought.
By the time we arrived at Polson Pier, I remembered that I left my tripod at home, but I had a mini camera stand and some textbooks, so I used those props to sturdy my camera instead. This was also the time before I could afford ND filters to capture smooth clouds rolling in the sky so I used the highest aperture possible for my lens (quick tip, to get the sharpest image out of your lens, use 3 stops above/below the highest/lowest aperture of your lens) f/22 which got me 13 seconds of exposure. I was extremely satisfied with the raw photo I took off the back of my camera so I put my camera away, enjoying the rest of the evening watching sun setting over the city with my girlfriend.
When editing the picture, I played around the HSL tab a lot and found that if I extracted all the colors except for the orange yellow tones, it will create a very moody feel.
